Gabriel Weintraub is a Full Professor at the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of Chile and also directs the Deming Center for Operational Innovation and Excellence at Columbia Business School, New York. He was a tenured professor at Columbia Business School and a tenured professor and endowed chair at Stanford Graduate School of Business.
His research interests include data science, artificial intelligence, operations, management science, digital platforms, and market design. He has published dozens of articles on these topics in leading academic journals in his fields, including Management Science, Operations Research, Manufacturing & Service Operations Management, Econometrica, Review of Economic Studies, and Rand Journal of Economics.
He was part of the Chilean team that won the 2022 Edelman Award, known as the “Super Bowl” of applied analytics, for the use of data and analytics to improve response strategies to the COVID-19 pandemic. He received the 2015 MSOM Young Scholar Prize, which “recognizes exceptional young researchers who have made outstanding contributions to academic research in operations management.”
He was the winner of the IFORS “Operations Research in Development 2002” Award, given every three years for “high-impact operations research applications in developing countries.”
In addition, he has advised and worked with various digital platforms, such as AppNexus—where he served as Chief Economist—and Airbnb—where he was Senior Advisor—among others. He was an expert witness testifying for the U.S. Department of Justice in the litigation against Google’s AdTech business. He has also advised the Chilean government on various issues related to data science and public procurement.
