FEN Advances in AACSB 2026 International Reaccreditation Process

Between May 17 and 19, 2026, the School of Economics and Business (FEN) of the Universidad de Chile received the visit of the Peer Review Team (PRT) from AACSB, the world’s leading accreditation body for business schools. This milestone marked the central event of the Continuous Improvement Review (CIR), which evaluates the School’s institutional progress since its last accreditation, obtained in 2021.

The Peer Review Team was chaired by Robert F. Scherer, former Dean of Trinity University (United States), and included Deans Roberto Curci of Dominican University (United States) and Horacio Arredondo of EGADE Business School at Tecnológico de Monterrey (Mexico). Over the course of three days, the PRT carried out a rigorous evaluation agenda encompassing meetings with university authorities, department directors, faculty, professional staff, students, and FEN’s Business Advisory Council.

The committee also visited Rector Rosa Devés at the University’s main campus, accompanied by Dean José De Gregorio. The Rector expressed her pride in the FEN’s achievement: “It was a pleasure and a source of great pride to hear the report of the AACSB evaluation team, which recognized FEN’s excellence across all areas of its work. We witnessed a rigorous, fair, and well-informed assessment, as well as the sound strategic direction that has guided the Faculty’s development in recent years. We congratulate the entire FEN community, its students, faculty, and staff, as well as its leadership, for the quality, impact, and vision of the work they carry out.”

Dean De Gregorio underscored the significance of this process: “Having participated in both the 2021 accreditation and this new review allows us to clearly appreciate the institutional evolution and maturity that the School has achieved over these years. International reviews of this kind are especially valuable because they challenge institutions to question themselves, to adapt, and to project their next goals in an increasingly dynamic and demanding global environment.”

Paula Varas, FEN’s Head of Institutional Accreditation, highlighted the collective effort behind the achievement: “This visit demonstrated the high level of commitment, professionalism, and coordination of FEN’s professional teams, as well as the active engagement of the faculty and its leadership. The PRT’s feedback reaffirms the level of institutional development we have reached and sets forth new challenges and a working agenda for the years ahead, particularly in preparation for the AACSB 2026 global standards and the implementation of our Strategic Plan 2030.”

The Continuous Improvement Review verified compliance with AACSB’s 2020 standards, a framework built around three core principles: engagement, innovation, and impact. The review also examined the coherence between faculty deployment, financial sustainability, and the institution’s public mission.

FEN is the only publicly funded business school in Chile to hold AACSB accreditation, a distinction shared by fewer than 6% of business education institutions worldwide.

At the conclusion of the visit, the PRT delivered its preliminary observations across the nine AACSB standards. In the coming weeks, the School will receive the team’s official report, followed by AACSB’s formal communication regarding the final outcome of the accreditation process.
