FEN Research Director Alejandro Bernales Receives “Best Paper Award” at FEBS 2024 Conference in Paris
Alejandro Bernales, the Research Director at the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEN) at the University of Chile, has been honored with the prestigious “Best Paper Award” at the FEBS 2024 Conference held in Paris. This award was given for the paper titled “Learning from News, Information Flow, and Financial Markets,” co-authored by Bernales, Marcela Valenzuela from PUC, and Ilknur Zer from the Federal Reserve Board.
The study is a groundbreaking combination of neuroscience, machine learning, and financial economics, exploring the relationship between brain activity, cognitive load, and their influence on financial markets. Using textual analysis and machine learning on articles from The New York Times since 1885, the researchers evaluated information overload.
The recognition at the FEBS Conference underscores the importance of interdisciplinary research and highlights the collaboration between Chilean researchers and the Federal Reserve Board. Bernales expressed gratitude for the honor, noting the significance of the team's collaborative efforts.
