FEN Uchile Hosts Its First-Ever Carbon-Neutral Event: Chile Carbon Forum 2024

The Chile Carbon Forum 2024 has been officially recognized as a carbon-neutral event, marking a milestone in sustainable emissions management at the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEN) of the University of Chile. The event generated 45.13 tons of CO2e, which were verified and offset through carbon credits from the Mariposas Hydroelectric Plant, located in San Clemente, Maule Region.

The Chile Carbon Forum is organized by CLG-Chile (Corporate Leaders Group for Climate Action), which brings together companies committed to climate action and the transition to a low-carbon economy. CLG-Chile operates under the joint management of FEN Uchile, the British Embassy, and the Chilean-British Chamber of Commerce, as part of the global Corporate Leaders Network for Climate Action. Other key partners include EnergyLab, Climate Action Teams, and the Mexican Carbon Platform.

The certification was made possible through the HuellaChile initiative, a program led by Chile’s Ministry of the Environment that promotes greenhouse gas (GHG) management in public and private organizations, encouraging both emissions reduction and neutralization.

María Teresa Ruiz-Tagle, Executive Director of CLG-Chile, emphasized the significance of this achievement: “The 2024 edition was the first carbon-neutral event at FEN Uchile. We hope this sets a precedent to follow as part of our commitments and decarbonization plan.”

The next edition, Chile Carbon Forum 2025, will take place on October 7-8 at FEN Uchile and remains the country’s leading event for carbon market development.
