G. Boric’s new Cabinet: FEN graduates and academic, head Finance and Economy ministries

The newly appointed ministers take office at the La Moneda Palace on March 11.

 

This morning, President-elect Gabriel Boric announced his first government cabinet. Among the new authorities that will accompany him in the debut of his future government stands out the Business Administration FEN graduate and current president of the Central Bank, Mario Marcel and the academic and FEN graduate Nicolás Grau.


Regarding the latter, the professor of the Department of Economics of  U. de Chile will head the Ministry of Economy, Development and Tourism, while FEN graduate Mario Marcel will become the new Minister of Finance. 

 
The academic and Business Administration FEN graduate and research fellow of the Center for Studies for Conflict and Social Cohesion (Coes), Nicolás Grau, began his political career as a student leader, specifically as president of the Federation of Students of the Universidad de Chile (FECh) in 2006. His research areas are Applied Microeconomics, Economics of Education and Econometrics.


For his part, FEN graduate and M. Phil. in Economics from the University of Cambridge, Mario Marcel, will leave behind his post as Head the Central Bank, institution he joined in 2015 as a director and since 2016 as its president.


The FEN economist also has extensive experience related to the Ministry of Finance, including positions such as Assistant Director of Rationalization and Public Function of the Budget Directorate; Chairman of the General Internal Audit Committee of the Government, and Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Council for Pension Reform, among others.
