University of Chile Ranks No. 1 Nationally in the 2024 Academic Ranking of World Universities

The University of Chile has once again claimed the top spot among Chilean universities in the prestigious Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) for 2024, marking the 22nd consecutive year it has held this position. The institution, also known as the Casa de Bello, is the only Chilean university to be ranked among the world's top 500. “This achievement brings both pride and responsibility, as it challenges us to continue our work with excellence and a commitment to public service,” said the university’s Rector, Professor Rosa Devés.

 

With this result, the University of Chile remains the leading higher education institution in the country according to international rankings and is positioned among the top 401 to 500 universities globally, the only Chilean university to make it into this range.

 

"It is incredibly satisfying to maintain our status as the best university in the country, according to the ARWU ranking," commented Professor Devés. "This is the most prestigious global ranking, based on objective criteria, and for 22 years it has placed the University of Chile first nationally and among the top 10 universities in Latin America. It is a source of great pride, but also a responsibility that drives us to continue our mission of excellence and public service".

 

The Shanghai Ranking evaluates 2,500 universities worldwide using rigorous, objective criteria, ultimately ranking 1,000 of them in its annual assessment. ARWU uses six indicators to evaluate universities, including the number of alumni who have won Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals and the number of research papers published in Nature and Science, among others. These indicators are grouped into four main criteria: quality of education, per capita academic performance, research output, and the quality of faculty.
